COVER GIRL!
I love reading magazines. And needless to say, I love magazine covers and have a soft spot for cover girls. Talking about cover girls, how can one go about without mentioning the name Aishwarya Rai. She is after all one of the most decorated Indian cover girls of all time. It doesn't matter if her last release didn't hit the bull's eye or the critics and audiences are still not convinced of her acting skills. At 44 and going on 45, she still holds her own and makes and breaks rules according to her whims. But I am not here to present an argument in favour of her everlasting stardom and appeal. The main reason behind this blog post is to start a series of posts that celebrate Aishwarya Rai (Bachchan is optional) on various magazine covers - some commonplace and some rare - over the years and across the world.
For the first blog in this series, I have decided to focus on her COSMOPOLITAN magazine covers. So, let's begin.
For the first blog in this series, I have decided to focus on her COSMOPOLITAN magazine covers. So, let's begin.
Her first Cosmopolitan India cover appeared on October 2005, when she was at the top of her game and Hollywood was taking a massive interest in her.
Just two months later she graced the cover of COSMOPOLITAN France (December 2005 issue). The cover described her as 'la bombe de Bombay' which translates to 'The Bombay Bomb'. This cover feature made her the first Indian movie star - male or female - to grace the cover of a mainstream fashion magazine outside India. Bride & Prejudice released across the world in 2005 and the West was enamoured by her beauty, charm and global appeal. And yes, Priyanka Chopra's Cosmopolitan France cover came much later, almost 12 years after Ash's.

I came across this recently; less than a month ago, when I was casually surfing the net. I was overjoyed at the discovery, to say the least. I am guessing the cover is from around 2008/2009 and the country is Lithuania. As can be seen, they chose the cover photo from one of her Cannes red carpet appearances. Resourceful, I must say.
If this cover looks familiar, it's because the Bulgarian (April 2009) edition of the magazine used the same cover from the October 2005 (India) issue for their cover story. Pink Panther 2 released in February across the world and as expected she was the talk of the town or in this case the world.
May 2011, India issue. After having 5 releases in 2010, she was on the verge of motherhood in 2011. Her glowing cover only added to the zing.
P.S: The magazine covers are collected from various internet sources and are used for archival purposes only. If anyone has more information regarding more such covers, do contact me in the details given below. Share and spread the joy.
